Mary Louise Streep was born on June 22, 1949, in Summit, New Jersey. She received her education in drama at Vassar College and the Yale School of Drama. She began her career on the New York stage in the 1970s.
Her film debut came in 1977 with the movie Julia. Just a year later, in 1978, she received her first Academy Award nomination for her role in the war drama The Deer Hunter.
Streep is renowned for her exceptional ability to transform, mastering accents and embodying complex, multifaceted characters. She holds the record for the most nominations for an Academy Award (21 nominations) and a Golden Globe (33 nominations).
She has won three Oscars:
Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) — for Best Supporting Actress.
Sophie's Choice (1982) — for Best Actress.
The Iron Lady (2011) — for Best Actress (where she played Margaret Thatcher).
Among her most famous works demonstrating her versatility are the drama Out of Africa (1985), the comedy Death Becomes Her (1992), the musical Mamma Mia! (2008), the comedy The Devil Wears Prada (2006), and the political thriller The Post (2017).
