Dustin Lee Hoffman was born on August 8, 1937, in Los Angeles, California, USA. He originally studied music, but left those studies and turned to acting. After moving to New York City, he worked odd jobs while building his career through television and Off-Broadway performances.
His film debut came in The Tiger Makes Out (1967), but his breakthrough arrived almost immediately with The Graduate. He went on to become one of the defining actors of New Hollywood through performances in Midnight Cowboy, Little Big Man, Straw Dogs, All the President’s Men, Kramer vs. Kramer, Tootsie, and Rain Man. In later decades he remained active with films such as Meet the Fockers, Stranger than Fiction, The Meyerowitz Stories, Megalopolis, and Kung Fu Panda 4. He made his directorial debut in Quartet.
